Hello

I'm thrilled to share my passion for pottery with you! At Chad's Pottery, I create unique and beautiful pieces that are perfect for any occasion. Be sure to check out our portfolio and follow us on social media to stay-to-date on our creations.

My Story

Hi, my name is Chad McLean, and I was born in a small town called Hobart, IN. Growing up, I always enjoyed using my hands, whether playing in the mud or helping my dad fix a car. But my favorite thing was always creating something; my favorite toy as a child was Play-Doh. I just loved being able to form anything I could imagine.

I guess you can say my pottery journey started in high school when taking a pottery class. You could say I was a natural (though not necessarily good). But there was just something about how the clay felt in my hands that felt natural. That's what lit the spark of my love for the craft.

Where I really started to develop my skills was in 2020, freshman year of college. I signed up for ceramics 1 on the off chance of getting in, as it was usually filled by seniors. My whole class consisted of seniors, with me being the only freshman. This is where I met my ceramics teacher, Barry, who has been a big inspiration and really helped me hone my skills.

Through pottery, I have met so many great people, made amazing friends, and learned more about pottery than I ever thought possible. I've learned to fire multiple different kilns, ranging from electric to gas and wood kilns. Through this, I couldn't help but pursue my passion for pottery, finding a Brent J kick wheel and an electric kiln that my parents kindly let me set up in the basement and garage. They have been very supportive of my love for clay. This has allowed me to participate in a few markets, which have been a learning experience for me but an amazing time.

My main reason for creating this website is, first, to hopefully sell my stuff, but also to keep my passion alive. This is because I am graduating this upcoming May with a major in finance and a minor in ceramics. I know life gets busy, but I never want my passion for pottery to die. If I'm one of the lucky few, this passion of mine could end up being what I am doing in life.
